Grüezi, こんにちわ, Hej, and Hola!
Welcome to Sound Dissection, and thank you for being here. In short, this is a new media analysis project launched with the single overarching goal to reflect on the tradition of recorded music and performance.
While the practice of music making continues to be industrialized and commoditized, rarely is that reality considered when reviewing the works of the moment’s most recognized artists. In a time when the vast majority of live event ticketing is done through a single entity, the need to support and uplift those working beyond the bounds of the modern industry is greater than ever.
Simultaneously, the resources that artists and creators have to connect with listeners are more accessible than ever before. This environment leaves many voices lost in an ever-growing ocean of content.
These very circumstances are now conditioning the works that do break through.
This project sets forth with this wider context at the forefront.Sound Dissection aims to serve as a platform for at least some of those voices and give them the attention they deserve. These are the central tenets under which I, a multimedia journalist, am launching this project.
Thank you for reading.
Best,
– Michael
