Melissa Galosi’s piano offers playful melodies and poignant chord progressions that portray the complicated gentleness of youth.

Candor, the Italian musician’s latest release, continues this theme with 10 solo compositions for piano.

Released July 31 through the German label into trembling silence, the project offers a musical interpretation of the lessons and emotions deeply tied to childhood. The recording is rooted in the artist’s many years spent teaching and observing children of different ages and personalities.

Galosi calls on direct memories of watching young people in different stages of development grow and make sense of the world that surrounds them. Candor serves as a document of moments that remain the most vivid in the composer’s mind.

It is a collection of works that conveys an immense gentleness, offering melodic curiosity and a peaceful joy.

The music is as much an ode to the excitement and anticipation of youth as it is a reflection of the composer’s own elation in watching young people develop and come into their own as a pedagogue.

“Through music, I have tried to give shape to those feelings that belong to childhood: sweetness, innocence, and spontaneity,” Galosi stated. “Each composition represents a fragment of memory, an impression that has remained vivid over time.”

In this new collection of compositions, Galosi builds upon the subject matter, having previously approached it with her works Games, shared by the Vienna- and Innsbruck-based label col legno, and Acorn, through Montreal’s Moderna Records.

This fresh collection of work that comprises Candor was recorded in the artist’s own home studio.

As this new work celebrates the delight of youth, the compositions carry with them a melancholic nostalgia that serves as an ever-present reminder that the moments this music depicts are forever fleeting.

And in that transitory existence, these moments are all the more precious.
